Isaiah
- Time of Isaiah
When
King Hezekiah Heard It
- that he rent his clothes and covered himself with sackcloth
and went into The House Of God.
He
Sent Eliakim - that was over the Household and Shebna
the scribe and elders of the Priests covered with sackcloth
to Isaiah the Prophet son of Amoz.
They
Said To Him - Thus saith Hezekiah
This day is a day of trouble and of rebuke and blasphemy for
the children are come to the birth and there is not strength
to bring forth.
It
May Be Thy God - will hear
all the words of Rabshakeh whom the King of Assyria his master
hath sent to reproach The Living
God and will reprove The Words that God
hath heard wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that
are left. So the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
Isaiah
Said To Them - Thus Shall Ye Say to your master Thus
Saith God Be not afraid of The
Words that thou hast heard with that the servants of the King
of Assyria have blasphemed me.
Behold
I Will Send A Blast Upon Him - he shall hear a rumour
and shall return to his own land and I will cause him to fall
by the sword in his own land.
So Rabshakeh Returned - and found the
King of Assyria warring against Libnah for he had heard that
he was departed from Lachish.
When
He Heard Say - of Tirhakah King of Ethiopia Behold he
is come out to fight against thee he sent messengers again to
Hezekiah saying
Thus
Shall Ye Speak To Hezekiah King Of Judah Saying - Let
not thy God in whom thou trustest
deceive thee saying Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the
hand of the King of Assyria.
Behold
Thou Hast Heard - what the Kings of Assyria have done
to all lands by destroying them utterly and shalt thou be delivered
?
Have
The gods Of The Nations Delivered Them - that My Fathers
have destroyed as Gozan Haran and Rezeph and The Children of
Eden that were in Thelasar?
Where
Is The King Of Hamath - and the King of Arpad and the
King of the city of Sepharvaim of Hena and Ivah?
Hezekiah
Received The Letter - of the hand of the messengers and
read it and Hezekiah went up into The
House Of God and spread it before God.
Hezekiah
Prayed Before God - and
said O God Of Hebrews that dwellest
between the Cherubims Thou Art God
even thou alone of all The Kingdoms Of
The Earth Thou Hast made Heaven
and Earth.
God
Bow Down Thine Ear - and hear open God
thine eyes and see and hear the words of Sennacherib
that hath sent him to reproach The Living God.
Of
A Truth God - the Kings
of Assyria have destroyed the Nations and their lands. Have
cast their gods into the fire for they were no gods but the
work of men's hands wood and stone therefore they have destroyed
them.
Now
Therefore O God - I beseech thee save thou us out of
his hand that all The Kingdoms Of The Earth may know that thou art God
even thou only.
Then
Isaiah The Son Of Amoz - sent to Hezekiah saying Thus
saith God Of Hebrews that thou
hast prayed to me against Sennacherib King of Assyria I have
heard.
This
Is The Word That God - hath spoken concerning him The
virgin the daughter of Zion hath despised thee and laughed thee
to scorn the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.
Whom
Hast Thou Reproached - and blasphemed Against ?
Whom
Hast Thou
Exalted - thy voice and lifted up thine eyes
on high
?
Even
Against - The Holy One Of Hebrews.
By
Thy Messengers Thou Hast - Reproached God
and hast said
With
The Multitude Of My Chariots - I am come up to the height
of The Mountains to the
sides of Lebanon and will cut down the tall cedar trees thereof
and the choice fir trees thereof I will enter into the lodgings
of His Borders and into the forest
of His Carmel. I have digged and
drunk strange waters and with the sole of my feet have I dried
up all the rivers of besieged places.
Hast
Thou Not Heard Long Ago - how I have done it and of Ancient
Times that I have formed it ?
Now
Have I Brought It To Pass - that thou shouldest be to
lay waste fenced cities into ruinous heaps. Therefore their
inhabitants were of small power they were dismayed and confounded
they were as the grass of the field and as the green herb as
the grass on the house tops and as corn blasted before it be
grown up.
I Know Thy
Abode - and Thy going out and Thy coming in and Thy rage against
me.
Because thy
rage against me and thy tumult is come up into mine ears therefore
I will put my hook in thy nose and my bridle in thy lips and
I will turn thee back by the way by that thou camest.
This
Shall Be A Sign To Thee - Ye Shall Eat This Year such
things as grow of themselves and in the second year that springeth
of the same in the third year sow ye and reap plant vineyards
and eat the fruits thereof.
The
Remnant That Is Escaped - of The House Of Judah shall
yet again take root downward and bear fruit upward.
For
Out Of Jerusalem - shall go forth a remnant and they
that escape out of Mount Zion the
zeal of God of hosts shall do this.
Therefore
Thus Saith God - concerning
the King of Assyria.
He
Shall Not Come Into This City -
nor shoot an arrow there nor come before it with shield nor
cast a bank against it. By the way that he came by the same
shall he return and shall not come into this City
saith God.
For
I Will Defend This City -
to save it for mine own sake and for my servant David's sake.
That
Night That The Angel Of God
- went out and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred
fourscore and five thousand when they arose early in the morning
behold they were all dead corpses.
So
Sennacherib King Of Assyria Departed - and went and returned
and dwelt at Nineveh.
As
He Was Worshipping - in the house of Nisroch his god
that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword
they escaped into the land of Armenia. Esarhaddon his son reigned
in his stead.
In
Those Days Was Hezekiah - sick to death. The prophet
Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him and said to him Thus saith
God Set thine house in order for thou shalt die and not live.
Then
He Turned His Face - to the wall and prayed to God saying
I beseech thee O God remember now how I have walked before thee
in truth and with a perfect heart and have done that is good
in thy sight. Hezekiah wept sore.
Afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court that the word
of God came to him saying Turn again and tell Hezekiah the captain
of my people
Thus
Saith God Of David - Thy Father
I have heard Thy Prayer I have seen thy
tears Behold I Will Heal Thee on the third day Thou Shalt Go
up to The House Of God.
I
Will Add To Thy Days Fifteen Years - I will deliver thee
and this City out of the hand of
the King of Assyria and I will defend this city for mine own
sake and for my servant David's sake.
Isaiah
Said - Take a lump of figs. They took and laid it on
the boil and he recovered.
Hezekiah
Said To Isaiah - What shall be the sign that God will
heal me and that I shall go up into The
House Of God the third day ?
Isaiah
Said This Sign - Shalt Thou have of God
That
God Will Do The Thing -
that He Hath Spoken Shall the shadow go forward ten degrees
or go back ten degrees?
Hezekiah
Answered - It is a light thing for the shadow to go down
ten degrees nay but let the shadow return backward ten degrees.
Isaiah
The Prophet Cried To God
- He brought the shadow ten degrees backward by that it had
gone down in the dial of Ahaz.
At
That Time Berodachbaladan - son of Baladan King of Babylon
sent letters and a present to Hezekiah for he had heard that
Hezekiah had been sick.
Hezekiah
Hearkened To Them - and shewed them all
The House Of His Precious Things
silver and gold the spices the precious ointment and all The
House Of His Armour.
All
That Was Found - in His Treasures
there was nothing in His House
nor in all His Dominion that Hezekiah
shewed them not.
Then
Came Isaiah The Prophet - to King Hezekiah
and said to him What said these men ? From whence came they
to thee ?
Hezekiah
Said - they are come from a far country even from Babylon.
He
Said - What have they seen in Thine House
?
Hezekiah
Answered - All the things that are in mine House
have they seen there is nothing among my treasures that I have
not shewed them.
Isaiah
Said To Hezekiah - Hear The Word Of God.
Behold
The Days Come - that all that is in thine House and that
Thy Fathers have laid up in store to this day shall be carried
into Babylon nothing shall be left saith God.
Of
Thy Sons That Shall - issue from Thee that thou shalt beget
shall they take away they shall be eunuchs in the palace of
the King of Babylon.
Then
Said Hezekiah To Isaiah - Good is The
Word Of God that thou hast spoken. He said Is
it not good if peace and truth be in my days ?
After
These Things - and the establishment there of Sennacherib
King of Assyria came and entered into Judah and encamped
against the fenced cities and thought to win them for himself.
When Hezekiah
Saw That Sennacherib - was come that he was purposed to fight
against Jerusalem. He took counsel with his princes and his
mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains that were without
the city and they did help him.
So
There Was Gathered Much People Together - who stopped all The
Fountains and The Brook
that ran through the midst of The Land
saying Why should the Kings of Assyria come and find much water?
Also He
Strengthened Himself - and built up all the wall that was broken
and raised it up to the towers and another wall without and
repaired Millo in the city of David and made darts and shields
in abundance.
He Set Captains
Of War - over the people gathered them together to him in the
street of the gate of the city and spake comfortably to them
saying Be strong and courageous be not afraid nor dismayed for
the King of Assyria nor for all the multitude that is with him
for there be more with us than with him.
With
Him Is An Arm Of Flesh - with us is God our God to help
us and to fight our battles.
The People
rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah King of Judah.
After
This Did Sennacherib King Of Assyria - send his servants
to Jerusalem but he himself laid siege against Lachish and all
his power with him) to Hezekiah King of Judah and to all Judah
that were at Jerusalem saying Thus saith Sennacherib King of
Assyria Whereon do ye trust that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem
?
Doth Not
Hezekiah Persuade You - to give over yourselves to die by famine
and by thirst saying God our God shall deliver us out of the
hand of the King of Assyria ?
Hath not
the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars
and commanded Judah and Jerusalem saying Ye shall worship before
one altar and burn incense upon it?
Know ye not
what I and my fathers have done to all the people of other lands?
were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to
deliver their lands out of mine hand?
Who was
there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly
destroyed that could deliver his people out of mine hand that
your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand ?
Now therefore
let not Hezekiah deceive you nor persuade you on this manner
neither yet believe him for no god of any nation or Kingdom
was able to deliver his people out of mine hand and out of the
hand of my fathers how much less shall your God deliver you
out of mine hand ?
His servants
spake yet more against God and against his servant Hezekiah.
He wrote also letters to rail on God of Israel and to speak
against him saying
As the gods
of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people
out of mine hand so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his
people out of mine hand.
Then
They Cried With A Loud Voice - in the speech to the People
of Jerusalem that were on the wall to affright them and to trouble
them that they might take the city.
They
Spake Against God Of Jerusalem
- as against the gods of the People of The Earth. That
were the work of the hands of man.
For
This Cause - Hezekiah the King and the Prophet Isaiah
son of Amoz Prayed and cried to Heaven.
God
Sent An Angel - that cut off all the mighty men of valour
and the leaders and captains in the camp of the King of Assyria.
So he returned
with shame of face to his own land. When he was come into the
house of his god they that came forth of his own bowels slew
him there with the sword.
Thus
God Saved Hezekiah - and
the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the
King of Assyria and from the hand of all other and guided them
on every side.
Many
Brought Gifts To God - to Jerusalem and presents to Hezekiah
King of Judah so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations
from thenceforth.
In those
days Hezekiah was sick to the death and prayed to God and he
spake to him and he gave him a sign.
Hezekiah
rendered not again according to the benefit done to him for
his heart was lifted up therefore there was wrath upon him and
upon Judah and Jerusalem.
Notwithstanding
Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart both he
and the inhabitants of Jerusalem so that the wrath of God came
not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.
Hezekiah
had exceeding much riches and honour and he made himself treasuries
for silver and for gold and for precious stones and for spices
and for shields and for all manner of pleasant jewels.
Storehouses
also for the increase of corn and wine and oil and stalls for
all manner of beasts and cotes for flocks.
Moreover
He Provided Him - cities and possessions of flocks and
herds in abundance for God had
given him substance very much.
This
Same Hezekiah Also Stopped - the upper watercourse of
Gihon and brought it straight down to the west side of The City
Of David.
Hezekiah
Prospered - in all His Works.
The
Rest Of The Acts Of Hezekiah - and all his might how
he made a pool and a conduit and brought water into The
City.
Are They
Not Written In - The Book Of The Chronicles Of The Kings Of
Judah ?
Howbeit
In The Business Of - the ambassadors of the princes of
Babylon who sent to him to enquire of the wonder that was done
in the land God left him to try him that he might know all that
was in his heart.
Now
The Rest Of The Acts Of Hezekiah - and his goodness
Then
All The People Of Judah - took Uzziah who was sixteen
years old and made him King in the room of his father Amaziah.
He built Eloth and restored it to Judah after that the King
slept with his fathers.
Sixteen
Years Old Was Uzziah - when he began to reign and he
reigned fifty two years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also
was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.
He Did That Was Right - in
the sight of God according to all that his father Amaziah
did.
He Sought God In
The Days Of Zechariah - who had understanding in the
visions of God and as long as he
sought God made him to prosper.
He
Went Forth and Warred Against The Philistines - brake
down the wall of Gath the wall of Jabneh the wall of Ashdod
and built cities about Ashdod and among the Philistines.
God
Helped Him Against - the Philistines and against the
Arabians that dwelt in Gurbaal and the Mehunims.
The
Ammonites Gave Gifts To Uzziah - his name spread abroad
even to the entering in of Egypt for he strengthened himself
exceedingly.
Moreover
Uzziah Built Towers In Jerusalem - at the corner gate
at the valley gate and at the turning of the wall and fortified
them.
Also
He Built Towers In The Desert - digged many wells for
he had much cattle both in the low country and in the plains
husband men also and vine dressers
in the mountains and in Carmel
for he loved husbandry.
Moreover
Uzziah - had an host of fighting men that went out to
war by bands according to the number of their account by the
hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler under the hand
of Hananiah one of the King's captains.
The whole
number of the chief of the fathers of the mighty men of valour
were two thousand six hundred. Under their hand was an army
three hundred thousand seven thousand five hundred that made
war with mighty power to help the King against the enemy.
Uzziah
Prepared For Them Throughout All The Host - shields and
spears and helmets and habergeons and bows and slings to cast
stones.
He
Made In Jerusalem Engines - invented by cunning Men.
To
Be On The Towers - and upon the bulwarks to shoot arrows
and great stones withal. His name spread far abroad for he was
marvellously helped till he was strong.
When he was
strong his heart was lifted up to his destruction for he transgressed
against God his God
and went into The Temple Of God
to burn incense upon the altar of incense.
Azariah
The Priest - went in after him and with him fourscore
Priests Of God that were valiant men.
They
Withstood Uzziah The King - and said to him It appertaineth
not to thee Uzziah to burn incense to God.
To
The Priests - the sons of Aaron that are consecrated
to burn incense go out of The Sanctuary.
For
Thou Hast Trespassed - neither shall it be for thine
honour from God.
Then
Uzziah Was Wroth - and had a censer in his hand to burn
incense and while he was wroth with the priests the leprosy
even rose up in his forehead before the priests in The
House Of God from beside the incense altar.
Azariah
The Chief Priest - and all The Priests looked upon him
and behold he was leprous in his forehead and they thrust him
out from thence yea himself hasted also to go out because God
had smitten him.
Uzziah
The King Was A Leper - to the day of his death and dwelt
in a several House being a leper for he was cut off from The
House Of God and
Jotham
His Son Was - over The King's House
judging The People of The Land.
Now
The Rest Of The Acts Of Uzziah - first and last did Isaiah
The Prophet the son of Amoz write.
So
Uzziah Slept - with his fathers they buried him with
his fathers in the field of the burial that belonged to The
Kings for they said He is a leper and
Jotham His
Son - reigned in his stead.
